All Ireland Podiatry Conference

The All Ireland Podiatry Conference takes place in County Armagh later this month [27 & 28th April]. For the first time both SCP Northern Ireland and the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists Ireland will come together to host a two day event at the Armagh City Hotel.

The Firefly Orthoses team will be attending both days of the event, exhibiting at the trade expo. During the event Firefly will be promoting the benefits of digital scanning – a efficient method of using technology to capture patient foot data.

We will also be delivering a workshop on prescribing custom made foot orthoses. This workshop is designed to build confidence of practitioners who wish to add custom made orthoses to their range of clinical therapies offered. Delivered by Martin Mc Geough, Firefly’s founder and medical director, the workshop breaks downs the barriers commonly associated with prescribing custom made orthoses.

We will have samples of our range of products including over the counter devices, Richie Brace AFOs and our own range of custom made devices.

Excellence in Healthcare 2017

We’re back on the road again, this time visiting Glasgow to attend the Excellence in Healthcare conference. The event runs across the 8th and 9th of June at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Firefly is represented at the conference by the wonderful Claire Carr. Make sure you call by to the Firefly stand to talk to Claire about Firefly’s range of foot orthoses and our other technical support services provided to Firefly’s customers.

Firefly’s Claire at Health in Excellence 2017

Claire will be on hand to provide info on our new shell material Delrin:

roughly half as much DELRIN® is required as that of a standard Polypropylene shell. Therefore, 2.5mm DELRIN® = 5mm Polypropylene to create the same level of support and can still be heat adjusted in the manner of a standard Polypropylene shell.

Also on display at the Firefly Orthoses stand are samples of the Richie Brace ankle foot orthotic. Firefly is the only licensed supplier of the Richie Brace to the Irish and UK market.

The conference incorporates four individual conferences in medicine, surgery, travel medicine, and podiatric medicine running in parallel over two days. Delegates will be free to move between the parallel conferences and attend sessions of interest from the different disciplines.

The four individual conferences will come together for key plenary sessions by inspirational speakers including:

  • John Meara, Harvard Medical School
  • James Logan, Department of Disease Control
  • Catherine Calderwood, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland
  • Greig Trout, Cancer Survivor

Firefly Summit 2017

Speaking of conferences, our own Firefly Summit 2017 is fast approaching. The Summit is being billed as the podiatry event of the year, where delegates will gain CPD points as leading podiatry clinicians from across the UK and Ireland offer their clinical gold.  Find out more about the Firefly Summit, the wonderful northwest coast of Ireland where the Summit will be held and how to get there.

2017 Northern Ireland Annual Conference

We’re on the road once more, this time attending the Northern Ireland annual conference. The event takes place at the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa, Newcastle, Co Down on Friday, April 7th.

Firefly will be exhibiting at the event. Maurya and Sorcha from our Technical Support team will be on hand to talk to you about Firefly’s range of custom made orthoses and services.

There is a strong schedule of speakers for the event including Steven Urry who will be discussing ‘Widget Biomechanics’.

Conference Schedule

At the Firefly Orthoses exhibition stand, we will have 3D patient foot data capture technology, the iPad and Structure Sensor. In Firefly’s clinics our podiatrists are capturing patient foot data using the Structure Sensor and ipad. You can see the scanners demonstrated here Here’s some further info on the technology and its application to capturing foot data here.

Podiatrists who use the Structure Sensor, quickly and easily submit their digital images along with digital prescription forms by email – reducing turn around times as Firefly receive the order immediately.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Structure Sensor technology ask at our exhibition desk or contact [email protected]

Foot Health 2016 & Foot International Congress 2016

There’s  a number of events we are confirmed to attend for the second portion of the year, starting in June. On July 1st we’re in Birmingham for the Podopaediatrics Conference. On September 16th we’re at the Royal College of Surgeons, London for the 5th Annual Podiatric Sports Medicine Conference.

Where Firefly have been in 2016

Already this year we’ve attended the British Association of Prosthetists & Orthotists Conference in Coventry. In April we attended events at both ends of the island of Ireland. The SCPI annual conference was held in Cork at the beginning of the month. Later in the month we attended the Erne Resort in County Fermanagh for the Northern Ireland College of Podiatry Conference.

Firefly at conferences

At Firefly Orthoses we view attending conferences and podiatric related expos as an important element in how we present our products and services. These events provide an excellent opportunity for us to interact face-to-face with your our customers.

At these events we find out what our customers are talking about, what is working for them and what opportunities are presenting themselves across the discipline of Podiatry.

Glasgow Symposium

We would also like to bring to your attention the ‘Bringing Legs to Life’ symposium taking place on June 7th at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The symposium will focus on the topic of ‘promoting viability and preserving tissue in the lower limb‘.  Keynote speaker for the event is Prof. Ben Lipsky, visiting Professor, Teaching Associate, Green Templeton College, University of Oxford.

We look forward to seeing you at the many conferences, events and expos we are due to attend. Make sure you call over to our stand if you are attending any of the above events and say ‘hi’. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have about our products or services.

Bartold Biomechanics Seminar

Firefly is attending the Simon Bartold Seminar on the final day of the 2016 College of Podiatry conference at the Lough Erne Resort in Co. Fermanagh.

Martin McGeough and Greg Gillanders are representing both Firefly Orthoses Ltd and Firefly’s Foot & Ankle Clinics.

Bartold Biomechanics

Simon Bartold

Simon Bartold is a renowned name in the field of Biomechanics, his seminars regularly sell out around the world.  Beginning his careers as a Podiatrist and sports researcher in Australia, he now works alongside Asics as an international research consultant.

Bartold is well known for his stance against ‘minimalist’ or barefoot running and has played a role with Asics in the production of gender specific running shoes.

Simon’s seminar at the Northern Ireland conference is titled The Dynamic Athlete Assessment Protocol. Simon’s website, Bartold Biomechanics, describes the seminar as:

taking a unique and very hands-on approach to the assessment of the injured athlete, this seminar will give you the tools to change the way you assess and treat your patients. If you feel trapped in outdated models of static assessment, if you really want to learn new and relevant techniques that will immediately challenge the way you practice, this seminar is an absolute must.

The seminar is an all-day event and will bring the 2016 conference to a close.  Thank you to everyone who called by the Firefly Orthoses stand at this year’s conference.

The next event Firefly Orthoses will attend is the Foot Health 2016 conference in Kettering on June 21st and 22nd. Hope to see you there.
