We continue our series looking back at the rapid-fire presentations during the #FireflySummit 2017, this week it’s the turn of MSK Podiatrist Glen Foley.

Glen’s presentation encourages us to look deeper into the condition of Adult Rotational Deformity in the lower limb.

The condition is common in children but tends to resolve over time with musculoskeletal maturity. However, rotational deformity in adults can present an interesting clinical picture and can have significant bearing on timing and moments of force around the muscles and bones associated with the affected joint(s).

Glen discusses where such rotational deformities appear in the anatomy, potential causes and how to perform effective clinical assessments without engaging CT or MRI scans. He also outlines the challenges of correcting the condition without surgical intervention.

About Glen Foley

Glen is a vastly experienced podiatrist. Since graduating in 2003 from University of Brighton he has developed his interest in MSK podiatry to specialise in Biomechanics.

He has worked across both NHS and private practice environments and currently holds roles at the ‘Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court’ and lectures on several MSc modules including ‘Sports Injury’ and ‘Offloading the at Risk Foot’.

Glen’s presentation is titled “Rotational Deformity of the Lower Limb, Identification and Implications”.

About the Firefly Summit 2017

When we designed the Firefly Summit 2017 we wanted to create a podiatric event like no other. We invited 11 female and 10 male speakers to Sligo. Selected for their expertise and hands-on experience, these top clinicians collaborated on topics to deliver world-class podiatric presentations communicating their ‘clinical gold’ to the Summit delegates.

It wasn’t all podiatric talk. To keep things interesting, all 200 delegates and speakers immersed themselves in the beauty of the wilds of Ireland’s north west coast, taking part in surfing, hiking, stand up paddle-boarding and seaweed baths – WOW!
